As a professional business, S & H Rugs Gallery was opened in 1990 and is owned and operated by Mr. Karl Johnson. Karl graduated from Druid Hills High School in Atlanta, Georgia in 1972, and then attended Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana for 2 years before transferring to Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana to pursue a degree in Business. Karl's interest in oriental rugs began after inheriting a rug from his grandparents. Then in 1997, Karl began exhibiting select handmade rugs and carpets from his collection at fine antique shows through out New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Participating in 35 shows a year for such notable promoters as Oliver and Gannon, Stella Shows, PK Brannon, Jackie Sidelli, Ferguson & D'Arruda, and John & Tina Bruno, Karl Johnson became recognized as both a knowledgeable and trusted dealer in the antique rug trade and is routinely featured in newspaper articles and antiques publications throughout New England. The opening of S & H Rugs Gallery in Hudson, NY in 1999 served to further establish Karl Johnson and the S & H Rugs Gallery in the exclusive world of antique oriental rugs.
Then on September 7, 2002, S & H Rugs Gallery expanded onto the internet with the introduction of their exclusive web site at http://www.shrugsgallery.com. Karl Johnson and S & H Rugs Gallery have continued to expand this notable business and service antique rug dealers, interiors decorators and the general public nationwide with fine handmade and antique rugs ever since.
