Aubusson Weave Rug Collection

~ We invite you to enter the world of Aubusson - the 18th Century art of hand-woven flat-weave carpets in the tapestry technique. A world of timeless elegance, meticulous craftsmanship, expressive motifs and colorations. A world nearly lost, now experiencing a glorious rebirth, thanks to the authentic recreation of these traditional masterpieces.
~ While history is unclear on the exact date carpet making became the primary industry of the tiny French town of Aubusson, weavers there had begun to create carpets and tapestries as adornments for royal castles by the late 1600's. In the mid-1700's, when the French crown lent support to Aubusson artisans, the industry flourished, Kings commissioned the most famous architects and designers to create works of art which would be reinterpreted in woven form. As each monarch come to power, new designs reflected the styles and pastimes of the era. Named after the town of their birth, these hand-woven flat-weave carpets, which depicted lifelike images of flowers, fruits, architectural elements and musical instruments, became known as Aubussons.
~ Although their bright hues have softened to subtle colorations and they are extremely valuable, the surviving antique originals are usually in less than perfect condition. And, since Aubusson weaving is extremely labor intensive, it's an art now rarely practiced in present day France. It is through the present day revival of this exceptional weaving technique that S & H Rugs Gallery is able to help these historically significant woven works of art to endure.
~ The S & H Rugs Gallery's Aubusson Weave Rug Collection brings this historical weaving art form of Aubusson, France to life in present time. For more information about our beautiful Aubusson Weave rugs, please call (877) 784-2968 Toll Free, and we will be pleased to answer any of your questions.
